Holland, who has been collecting hosta plants since 1995, allowed UT Gardens personnel to collect divisions from her extensive personal garden of both species and hybrid plants. Tranquility is open to the public and was formally dedicated June 7.The 2015 UT Gardens Gala raised $96,590 through event tickets, auction sales and sponsorships, which resulted in $65,082 returning to the gardens to support more hands-on student internships, enhance garden planting material and broaden teaching and outreach programs.UT Martin alum Richard W. James teaches a class in the Fine Arts ceramics studio during the spring semester. James received his BFA from UTM in 2001 and is currently an MFA candidate in ceramics at the University of Kansas. While visiting UT Martin, James produced sculptures and led students in hands-on work.John Barker, a Humboldt, Tennessee, native, spoke during UT Martinβs spring commencement in the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center.
