UT Southern recently hosted its first Agriculture and Natural Resources Day, an event celebrating the region’s rich agricultural and ecological landscape. The program included sessions on sustainability, career paths in agriculture, and advancements in tree improvement and natural resources. Highlights included a panel on “Animal Sciences and Economic Development,” featuring industry leaders, and a concluding “Blue Ribbon Panel” on agriculture’s importance to Tennessee’s economy with distinguished speakers, including Dr. Charlie Hatcher, Tennessee’s commissioner of agriculture. AgDay showcased UT Southern’s commitment to agricultural education and sustainability, fostering knowledge exchange and community engagement.

UT Southern has received a grant to enhance support for first-generation college students as part of the 2024 First-Generation College Celebration initiative. The funding will bolster mentorship, academic success programs and community-building efforts tailored to help these students navigate college life. Highlights include expanded peer mentoring, workshops on career readiness and financial literacy, and social events fostering a sense of belonging. Chancellor Dr. Linda C. Martin emphasized the university’s commitment to supporting first-generation students, recognizing their resilience and contributions to campus diversity. This grant reflects UT Southern’s mission to expand access to higher education in Southern Middle Tennessee.

UT Southern Rises in 2025 U.S. News & World Report College Rankings

UT Southern announced a significant rise in the U.S. News & World Report’s 2025 Best Colleges rankings. It moved up six spots in the “Regional Colleges (South)” category, now ranked at No. 41, and advanced one position to No. 13 in the “Top Public Schools—Regional Colleges (South)” category.

This improvement highlights the university’s efforts in enhancing academic programs, student resources and overall campus experience. Chancellor Dr. Linda C. Martin credited the rise to dedicated faculty, increased student support and strategic investments across campus. This recognition positions UT Southern as a leading institution in Southern Middle Tennessee, committed to providing high-quality, accessible education and supporting student success.
