The University of Tennessee Alumni Travel Program offers a unique opportunity for alumni to reconnect with their alma mater while exploring the world. From the Northern Lights in Iceland to the sun-kissed vineyards of Italy, these specially curated trips allow alumni to embark on extraordinary adventures alongside the shared camaraderie of their collegiate experience.
A Journey of a Lifetime
For alumni like Melissa Smith (Martin ’21), the UT Alumni Travel Program provides more than just an opportunity to travel—it’s an immersive experience that strengthens connections to both the university and fellow graduates. Smith recently joined a group of UT alumni on an unforgettable trip to Iceland, a land of dramatic landscapes, volcanoes and glaciers. Here’s a peek into her travel diary, which captures the excitement and sense of adventure that defines these trips.

“Iceland is a place like no other. As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by the most spectacular views of towering waterfalls, rugged coastlines and the hauntingly beautiful glaciers,” Smith recalls. “The best part was exploring with a group of alumni who were just as eager to experience everything the island had to offer. Every day was filled with new sights, new friendships and shared memories. From soaking in the Blue Lagoon to watching the Northern Lights dance across the night sky, it was an experience I’ll never forget.”
The Iceland trip, like many others offered by the UT Alumni Travel Program, is designed to offer more than just sightseeing. Expert guides provide alumni with deep insights into the history, culture and natural wonders of each destination, making each stop feel like a once in-a-lifetime adventure. For Smith, the chance to meet new people and bond with fellow alumni was just as rewarding as the destinations themselves.
“It’s amazing how quickly you bond with people when you’re exploring a new country together,” she shares. “We’d spend our days visiting incredible sites, then come together in the evenings to share stories and experiences. It felt like a true community, and I left feeling even more connected to the UT family.”
