Entrepreneurship has shaped both my life and career in ways that were once unimaginable. As a first-generation college graduate and the creator of several businesses, the journey has brought both challenges and triumphs in turning ideas into reality.
But entrepreneurship is more than just starting a business—it’s about solving problems, thinking creatively and embracing the risks that drive innovation. With risk comes uncertainty, and sometimes, failure (yes, failure!). But failure isn’t the end—it’s a natural and necessary part of the process. Every misstep is an opportunity to learn, refine ideas and build resilience. The lessons gained through this journey extend far beyond business, shaping mindsets and opening doors to new possibilities.
At the University of Tennessee, we are committed to fostering a spirit of innovation across our campuses, institutes and throughout the state. Entrepreneurship is a powerful engine for economic growth, job creation and community development. When we invest in entrepreneurial education, we equip our students and faculty with the tools they need to create, lead and transform the world around them.
Through programs like UT Martin’s REED Center, UTIA’s Center for Profitable Agriculture, the Anderson Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at UT Knoxville, UTC’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and so many more, we are helping turn bold ideas into thriving businesses. Our UT System campuses and institutes serve as incubators for the next generation of entrepreneurs—students and researchers who will start companies, drive innovation and strengthen Tennessee’s economy.
Entrepreneurship plays a pivotal role in making this the greatest decade in UT history—one where creativity, problem-solving and ambition drive lasting progress. Together, we are shaping a Tennessee where ambition meets action and where the next generation of visionaries will change the world.
