Medal of Honor

Military leaders and Army ROTC cadets from UT Knoxville were among those at the White House when retired Army Capt. Larry Taylor received the prestigious Medal of Honor. Taylor (Knoxville ’66), received his commission from UT Army ROTC in June 1966.

Enrollment

More students are choosing to start their military careers at UT Knoxville due to the strong reputation of its Army and Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps programs. This fall, UTK’s ROTC programs had more than 340 cadets in their ranks, including 107 first-year students—the largest first-year class two years in a row.

Rankings

In the 2024 U.S. News and World Report best colleges rankings, UT Knoxville rose two spots among public universities to 51st, was highly ranked in a new category measuring faculty research and was recognized for the first time in the Innovation category. UT Knoxville has been named the top public institution in Tennessee by both Forbes Magazine and the Wall Street Journal’s 2024 best colleges in America.
