Spring 2024

Let’s sit together—perhaps with a cup of coffee or tea or beverage of your choice—and let me tell you a story or two or three. Did you hear about the UT Knoxville alumnus who climbed Mount Everest, leading a blind veteran to the summit? Or about the two Ukrainians who want to return and help rebuild their country with what they’re learning at UT Chattanooga? Let me tell you about the UT Martin alumnus who is trying to revive newspapers in small Tennessee towns and how the death of a UT Knoxville alumna’s son led to a UT Extension program that saved a farmer’s life.

In reading these stories—and books, whether fiction or nonfiction—we can step into another person’s world and experiences. We can catch a glimpse of thoughts and viewpoints that are not our own and find our own expanding. In short, we learn.
