
Five College of Business and Global Affairs students became the third UT Martin team in eight years to win a title by finishing first in the 11th national 2025 Conference of State Bank Supervisors Community Bank Case Study Competition. The team finished ahead of the University of Arkansas and Illinois State University. The annual competition is open to undergraduate students in all fields of study to gain valuable first-hand knowledge of the banking industry. The team presented its findings at the Community Banking Research Conference at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. Each winning team member received a $1,000 scholarship.
Grad Receives Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship

Lauren Milam, a May graduate, was named in July to a Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship valued at $8,500. The first-generation college student was a summa cum laude graduate (a grade-point average of 3.8 to 4.0) with a dual bachelor’s degree in chemistry and cell and molecular biology with a minor in neuroscience. She is a University Scholar and is attending medical school at the James H. Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University.
Hatchett Earns Goldwater Scholarship

Seth Hatchett, a senior triple-major from Huntingdon, was awarded the Goldwater Scholarship in its 2025 cohort. Hatchett is the seventh UT Martin student to earn the prestigious scholarship or its honorable-mention status. He is majoring in electrical engineering, cell and molecular biology, and general chemistry while minoring in neuroscience. The scholarship—one of the most prestigious national undergraduate scholarships in the natural sciences, engineering and mathematics—is awarded annually to about 400 college sophomores and juniors out of about 1,200 nominees.
Tractor Team Finishes in Top 10

The UT Martin tractor team placed 10th in the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers International Quarter-Scale Tractor Student Design Competition. The result was the best finish for a UT Martin team in the university’s 13 years of competing. Twenty-three teams participated in the 2025 competition.
Mallon Named Student Trustee

Ashlee Mallon, a UT Martin junior finance major from Dresden, was named the student trustee to the UT Board of Trustees during its annual meeting July 1 at UT Chattanooga. Her appointment was announced at the meeting by Board of Trustees Chair John Compton. Her term will run through June 30, 2026. Mallon is a member of the Ned Ray McWherter Institute and the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society and serves on the College of Business and Global Affairs Student Advisory Board.
