New Chancellor

New Chancellor

Dr. Steve Angle will officially become the 17th leader of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga on July 1. Angle, currently senior vice president at Wright State University, was elected chancellor by the UT Board of Trustees in February. Angle is already busy preparing for searches to fill several vacant leadership positions such as provost, athletic director and director of development. Angle earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry at the University of California, Irvine; a master’s degree in organic chemistry at the University of California, Los Angeles; and a Ph.D. in organic chemistry at the University of California, Irvine. He has worked at Wright State since 2007 and also worked at the University of California, Riverside.

Angle says he was drawn to UTC because of the campus’ integration with downtown. “It’s not a university off isolated; it’s part of the community. It will have a huge impact on the future of the region and Chattanooga,” he says. Angle believes keeping in touch with students is important, and he wants to work hard to retain students and help them progress toward graduation. Angle is married to Dr. Dominique Belanger. He is the father of Zoë, Ian and Brad.

Updated Mocs Express

The iconic train that helps boost school spirit on campus and in the community recently got a facelift from UTC students in an Introduction to Engineering Design class. Students made changes that made the train safer as well as making it look more spiffy. Students Patrick Godfrey, Jesse West, Thomas Anderson, Wesley Ford and Saama Davies did the work that included body stabilization, new lights, a redo of the smokestack and fun new sounds in the PA system for less than their budgeted $2,500.

A Place for Art
