Students in the Gibson County Special School District will have more opportunities to earn college credits and broaden career options, thanks to a new partnership between the special school district and UT Martin. Gibson County students can earn simultaneous credits in high school in partnership with the Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) Jackson and the university. High school students enrolled in the district’s agriculture programs can accelerate progress toward a bachelor’s degree by taking courses with TCAT Jackson and expanded dual-enrollment course opportunities with UT Martin.
Graduates Attend Veterinary School

Nineteen UT Martin veterinary science and technology graduates were accepted to veterinary schools for the fall 2025 semester. Of those, 12 were accepted to continue their education at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. These graduates and the 44 students who graduated in 2025 in the field of veterinary health technology will help to ease the shortage of veterinarians and veterinary technicians across the nation, particularly in rural areas and the large-animal veterinary fields.
Nursing Lab Named for Priest Family

Throughout his journey to becoming a respected interventional cardiologist in Boise, Idaho, Dr. Marshall Priest III saw the importance of high-quality nursing care in patient outcomes. His appreciation for the nursing profession and desire to give back to his alma mater inspired him to establish the Priest Family Clinical Excellence Fund and Endowment in the university’s department of nursing. The university in turn honored Priest and his family by naming a Gooch Hall nursing classroom the Priest Family Clinical Excellence Lab. The large lab space includes teaching equipment made possible by gifts from Priest and his wife, Cynthia, a registered nurse. Priest, a Carroll County native, returned in December to serve as keynote speaker for fall commencement.
Getting Super
Ten UT Martin sport business management students gained work experience at the Super Bowl, the 13th consecutive group to attend from the university. The game was played at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, the home field of the San Francisco 49ers, where the Seattle Seahawks beat the New England Patriots 29-13. Dexter Davis, professor of sport business, coordinates professional work experiences for students that include the Super Bowl, NFL games in London, Major League Baseball spring training games and Little League World Series games. The onsite experience helps students gain jobs and find careers after earning their degrees.
