Amy Miles

Over the years, movies have marked milestones for Amy Miles.

She remembers the anticipation and thrill of watching the first Star Wars film. She fondly recalls her high-school sweetheart, Dan (now her husband of many years), taking her and her sisters to see Steven Spielberg’s family classic E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.

“Many of my fondest memories have included movies,” Miles says. Today, as chair and CEO of Regal Entertainment Group, Miles has made her work life all about the film industry.

Always motivated to work hard, she had her first job at age 13, selling drinks and snacks at the community swimming pool. She later worked at a Krystal fast-food restaurant and waited tables at the University Club on the UT Knoxville campus.

“As a kid, I loved having a little money to call my own,” Miles says. “What I didn’t realize at the time is that those work experiences would be invaluable.”

In 1989, she received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from UT Knoxville.

“The years at UT were so important to my personal development—and so much fun,” she says. “I thoroughly enjoyed the requisite hard work along with a busy campus life.”

After 10 years as a certified public accountant at Deloitte & Touche and PricewaterhouseCoopers, Miles joined Regal Entertainment Group as senior vice president of finance in 1999. She rose to CFO in 2000, CEO in 2009 and CEO and chair of the board in 2015.

Miles is included on The Hollywood Reporter’s 2016 Women in Entertainment Power 100 list.
