Jack Dongarra, distinguished professor of computer science in the UT Knoxville Tickle College of Engineering, was named recipient of the 2021 Turing Award, often called the Nobel Prize of computing. His pioneering contributions helped pave the way for high-performance computing’s evolution during the past 40 years.

Mahshid Ahmadi

Assistant Professor in Chemistry Mahshid Ahmadi was named a Sloan Research Fellow for her revolutionary work with materials known as perovskites, which are grown from chemical solutions in order to develop low-cost materials that can be easily manufactured for use in electronics.

Assistant Professor of Sociology Deadric Williams, a family sociologist, was named one of five new members of William T. Grant Scholars and received $350,000 to execute a rigorous five-year plan to expand his research.
